Move to the Middle of the Ice BEFORE Shooting

Here is a great example of “stealing ice”.

Matvei Michkov delays and slides to the middle of the ice before sniping. By waiting he gets himself in a better scoring position. It also allows his teammate to get into a good position for a rebound with his stick on the ice.

Notice how Michkov keeps the puck protected from the defenceman with his body in the entire sequence.
