Wall Play In Action
Here is great example of angling and then immediately getting the puck off the wall. Boston’s Brad Marchand strips the Detroit defenseman and quickly bumps the puck off the wall to his teammate.
Also note how the scorer changes his shooting angle with a quick move before scoring.
Question: What does the Detroit defenseman do wrong? (Hint: Watch his stick fake.)
Answer: In the video, you can see the Detroit defenseman shoulder check and then use a stick fake before picking up the puck (all good so far). However, he fakes in the same direction that he actually goes. In so doing, he telegraphs the direction he is going to go and makes it easier for the forechecker to angle him off the puck.
