In a one on one, never deke unless you have to. Go up the left and blow by them with speed. You don't even need to deke.
But if the defenseman's so good they keep up with you and they only give you an option to go up the right, then use that as your deke.
Go up the left, stop, and then cut up the right. Go up the left, stop facing the pylon [middle of the ice]. Then spring out, And go up the right.
Do not stop, then start. Do a stop and start. Do not stop, then pull. Instead, stop and pull [at the same time]. So the second you get it, boom, you're stopping and pulling. On the backhand, that's it.
That is your first primary deke. One that should be used more than any other. It's fast. You can change directions quick. You can also protect your puck well. You can move the puck fast and into an open location. It’s a perfect one.
