Choosing Our Team Captains

Choosing Our Team Captains

As we gear up for another exciting season, it’s time for one of the most important decisions we’ll make together: choosing our team captains. This isn’t just about picking someone to wear the “C” or “A”s on their jersey; it’s about selecting leaders who will inspire us, support us, and help us achieve our goals both on and off the ice.

What Makes a Great Captain?

  1. Leadership: A great captain leads by example. They show up to every practice ready to work hard and push themselves and their teammates to be better.
  2. Communication: They are the bridge between the coach and the team. They listen to everyone’s concerns and relay important information clearly and effectively.
  3. Supportive: A captain is someone who lifts others up. They encourage their teammates, celebrate their successes, and help them through tough times.
  4. Respect: They earn the respect of their teammates through their actions, attitude, and dedication to the team.
  5. Positive Attitude: Even when the going gets tough, a great captain stays positive and keeps the team motivated.

How to Cast Your Vote

Each of you will have a vote in this important decision. Here are a few things to consider when making your choice:

  • Think About Who Inspires You: Who on the team makes you want to be better? Who do you look up to?
  • Consider Their Actions: Who consistently shows up and gives their all? Who is always there to lend a helping hand or a kind word?
  • Reflect on Their Attitude: Who stays positive, even when things aren’t going our way? Who keeps the energy up in the locker room and on the ice?
  • Evaluate Their Communication Skills: Who listens to you and makes sure your voice is heard? Who can effectively communicate with both the team and the coaches?

The Voting Process

  1. Voting: We’ll have a secret ballot where each player can select three choices for any of their teammates. There are two restrictions:
    1. First year U18’s are NOT eligible.
    2. You cannot vote for yourself.
  2. Announcement: The head coach and staff will make the final decision on our captain’s based on the results of the voting. This will likely not be today.
💡

Remember, this is a team decision, and every vote counts. Take your time to think about who you believe will best represent and lead our team.
