MAJOR TRAVEL ISSUE for SAT Sept. 9th Games
Please read the entire message
We have run into a Travel Problem. The Ministry of Transport for Ontario has been doing repairs all summer on the Burlington Skyway (James N. Allan) Bridge (main thoroughfare to Niagara (direct to Gateway and one of several routes to Mohawk)
The repairs were supposed to be completed by the end of August and several weekend dates in August were cancelled.
The Ministry has announced a full shutdown of the Burlington Skyway Bridge Niagara Bound (to Stoney Creek and Gateway). This will change the Routes and Travel Times to Gateway and Mohawk
Shutdown to start Friday Sept. 8th at 10:00pm and reopen on Saturday Sept. 9th at 10:00AM (tentative time). If there is bad weather this could be postponed till Saturday from 10:00pm to Sunday at 10:00am. MTO site will update as decisions are made
We try to run a Tournament that Showcases everyone’s Players to the Universities, and we are sorry this has happened as we did not expect this, but we would appreciate everyone adjusting their Travel Plans to keep the Tournament on time.
We have included the MTO Website Link below.
This will affect all the Teams first games on Saturday as even if the Bridge does open at 10:00am it will take some time to clear the congestion.
We will list an alternate route below. We do not know how heavy the Traffic will be, but it will be very congested and slow going and your estimated Travel Time needs to be adjusted by everyone to keep us on time on Saturday.
Teams
Teams staying in the Hamilton/Stoney Creek area should avoid the Lincoln Alexander and Red Hill Parkway if travelling to Gateway and utilize an alternate route utilizing the City streets
Teams that are staying in Burlington and Oakville or travelling on the QEW thorough this area and teams who travel from Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo area this change will affect your travel time also.
You need to alter your travel plans to ensure you arrive in time to warm up and be ready to play on time. We need to start games as scheduled. If you are late there may not be any warm up time except on the ice.
Taking the QEW to Niagara you will need to use this alternate route
The alternate route 403 Hamilton (3 lanes) to the Lincoln Alexander (3 lanes) to the Red Hill Parkway (starts with 3 lanes and goes down to 2 lanes (Creates a bottle neck) to the QEW to Fruitland Rd.
We are suggesting adding the following extra Travel Time to allow for the slow Traffic movement. We are not sure if this is too much or too little added time, but your travel apps (MTO app also) can help with your travel time needed but we would rather have you arrive a little earlier than later and put us in the position of having to alter our schedule.
MOHAWK: add 50-60 mins (if you had a 25 min normal travel time Now Allow 25 min plus 50-60 min = 1 hr. 15min to 1 hr. 25 min Travel Time) to arrive at the Arena in time for your warm up period
Example:
Game Time is 8:30am and your Team Arrival Time is 7:30am to allow for your warm up. This means you need to leave just after 6:00am to arrive as planned. It also allows some buffer time between 7:30 and 8:30 if your travel time takes longer.
GATEWAY: add 70-80 mins (if you had a 25 min normal travel time Now Allow 25 plus 70-80 min = 1 hr. 35min to 1 hr. 45 min Travel Time)
Example:
Game Time is 8:30am and your Team Arrival and Warm up time is 7:30am. This means you need to leave just after 5:45am to arrive as planned. It also allows some buffer time between 7:30 and 8:30 if your travel time takes longer.
The first games between 8:00am and 8:45am may have a shorter travel time but we do not know what the Traffic Flow will be at any time. It still means you will need to leave by our recommended Departure Time Estimates
