Scanning frequently on the ice is the equivalent to reading a test question thoroughly. If you don’t read the question, you can’t hope to find the correct answer.
Here’s the action plan I sent them:
Who: You
Where: On the ice, during the game
What: Scan the rink and take a mental picture of the three nearest teammates & three nearest opponents
When: On every change of possession & every time before touching the puck
How: Turn your head & take a picture with a camera inside your mind
Why: Once you know where the nearest six players are, your subconscious pattern recognition abilities from playing hockey for many years will take over, allowing you to take the correct route to the next play.
